Review: Tiddlywinks Dance and Play Cafe and Indoor Play Centre

We took a visit to Tiddlywinks Dance and Play Cafe and Indoor Play Centre yesterday, we were enticed by the lure of meeting Queen Elsa of Frozen however we had an amazing day! Tiddlywinks is located at 264 Melton Road, Nundah and is open Tuesday to Sunday. It's an indoor play centre for 0-11 year olds but it's so much more with three discos daily. Tiddlywinks opens at 9.30 and the disco was at 10.30, we arrived at 9.50am and it was pretty busy! They have tables and chairs set up and being school holidays and Queen Elsa visiting most tables were reserved or taken. I would definitely recommend booking a table prior to visiting or arrive on opening time. Entry is $11 for 1-4 years, $13 for 5-11 years and adults are $3.50 which includes a free coffee, tea or juice.

There are two play areas, firstly the toddler area (0-3years) which had plastic slides and castle and other toys to play with like crazy coupes, walkers and balance bikes.

The 3 and up area was amazing with so many things to do I actually couldn't take it all in! It's a three story playground that includes slides with hessian bags, ball areas including a launcher (but don't panic it can't hurt anyone), climbing areas and a tunnel twisting slide.

After a play the real fun started with DJ Colin commencing the disco at 10.30, he was engaging and played appropriate music for all ages. Each age group had a turn up on stage singing and dancing which they all loved!

They have a wide variety of food including sandwiches, pies, pizzas, fruit and a good selection of drinks for kids and adults. I didn't see any information advising no outside food and lots of people were eating food from home. The prices were reasonable so you could treat the kids without breaking the bank. Take a look at the menu on their Facebook page.

They also run dance classes for little ones and rock 'n' roll for adults all at reasonable prices. Check out their website for further details.

The kids had an amazing time and even I enjoyed getting up and dancing with the kids. Tiddlywinks is by far the best indoor play centre I've been to and you could easily spend the day there. The only worry is the play areas are on either side of the dance floor so if you have kids of different age groups then it may be hard to keep an eye on them. Great concept and friendly staff makes for a great adventure for the little ones.

Don't forget socks for the little ones!

Review: Eat Street Markets, Brisbane

Last Saturday Slicker and I took a trip to the Eat Street Markets. We took the kids (Miss Bumpkin ~ 3yo, Master Bumpkin ~ 1 and Master Slicker ~ 2.5) with us as well as Granny Chappy. Eat Street Markets operate Friday and Saturday nights 4.00-10.00pm at Hamilton Wharf which is off Macarthur Avenue, Hamilton. We arrived about 4.30pm and easily found a park, they have free parking right next door however there are limited spaces, there is also free parking on the street however it's very busy.

Entry is $2 per adult, children under 12 are free. There were a couple of ATMs on site and the line was always LOOOOONG, all the eateries are cash (a couple have eftpos) so I'd suggest you have plenty of cash or enjoy the long line for the ATM. They had a free tea cup ride for children which our kids LOVED and didn't really want to get off. Get in early before the crowds hit so your kids can have a few goes before the line gets too long.

Now onto the food, we all tried the potato slinkys on a stick ($5 each) which are all over Facebook and Instagram, they were delicious and the kids enjoyed them. We all had something different for dinner, I guess the best way to experience Eat Street Markets is for everyone to buy a plate and share so you can try a bit of everything. The food is around $7-$20, hot chips were $7, my main meal was $12 (seafood paella) and drinks were from $2.50 +. The Markets are run out of shipping containers and marquees, there are tables are chairs in the main dining area as well as scattered around the place.  Slicker tried a donut filled with ice cream with a Nutella syringe, WOWEE what a sugar rush, she loved it! The kids and I had a gelati ice cream which was also delicious. After dinner we sat and watched a live band for a little while, it would have been nicer to be at the front so the kids could see but we were late moving from the main dining area so missed a front row seat.

Both Slicker and I indulged in one of the 1 litre iced teas, delish ($7 or $5 refill), definitely a must try! By around 6.00pm it was very busy and hard to push the pram around as well as wrangle two crazy kids so I would definitely suggest getting there early. It is outdoors besides a couple of shade sails so you might have trouble staying dry if the heavens open up. Obviously being outdoors it's not air conditioned but it's generally cool enough by 4.00pm to be comfortable outside.

The food was yummy but to be honest I just felt like it was a big food court and it was hard to contain two toddlers in an open environment with so much to look, see and touch and soo many people to navigate through and around! If you're looking for a relaxing eating experience this is definitely not it but if you like wondering (sometimes through crowds) and looking at different things then this is your cup of (iced) tea!

Happy to tick Eat Street Markets off the bucket list and experience the hype of it all.

Recipe: Best ever STICKY wing recipe!

Growing up my all time favourite meal my Mum (Granny Chappy) cooked was chicken wings.  Bumpkin would disagree as she is a simple girl and happy with meat and 3 veg, I have a much more sophisticated palette, hahaha, or so I think! So naturally after moving into my own home it was on the top of the list of things to cook for Mr Slicker. Chicken wings are now one of his and Master Slickers favourites too.

Mr Slicker and I are lovers of wings and ribs, the stickier, the better! So here is my secret recipe that I have added to over time to perfect the most delicious, juicy and tasty wings!

Prep time: 10mins
Cooking time: 45mins

Ingredients
  • 15 chicken wings
  • 1/2 cup soya sauce
  • 1 heaped tablespoon garlic (fresh or jar)
  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • 1/2 cup sweet chilli sauce
  • brown sugar
Method
  • place chicken wings in a seal tight container
  • in a jug or small bowl combine sweet chilli, honey, soya and garlic and whisk well ensuring all the honey is mixed in (it can stick the the bottom so be sure to get all the sweet goodness mixed in).
    • All these ingredients can be bought from Aldi which makes it an even cheaper meal than you think!
  • once mixed, pour ingredients over chicken and seal the container
  • Shake Shake Shake!!! This will ensure all wings are covered evenly with the marinade
  • place container in the fridge for a minimum of 2 hours. It is best to do this in the morning and let the wings absorb all the ingredients throughout the day
  • Shake every half an hour or hour if you have it in the fridge for the day

Once the wings have soaked up that delicious goodness
  • preheat oven to 180 degrees for a fan forced oven
  • line a flat baking tray with two layers of alfoil, this is to be sure the stickiness isn't on your tray because it is hard to clean and it makes your job even easier, just take up the alfoil and bin it!
  • pour the chicken wings and all the marinade into the baking tray and spread the wings around the tray
  • sprinkle each individual wing with 1/2 teaspoon (a pinch) of brown sugar (this is the showstopper, it makes the skin so delicious and caramelised)
  • place wings in the top half of the oven, I like to do this so the skin is crispy and the marinade goes extra sticky
  • bake for 45 mins
  • take out of the oven and allow to cool for 5 mins
  • serve with brown or white rice and Asian greens (this is how we like it)
  • Pour leftover marinade from the baking tray over your rice and greens...yummmm!

You can have it as a meal or serve it as an appetiser or entree before you have dinner or as finger food at a party. It's great because you can prepare it before and chuck it in the oven when you need it.

This recipe is so quick and easy and it's also good for the inexperienced, yes you Bumpkin!. You'll need to get the wings from the deli in Coles or Woolworths or your Butcher as Aldi do not sell wings. You can also do this with drumsticks which would need another 10mins in the oven or with chicken breast. You don't need to use your oven, the BBQ or frypan would be just as good. I find the meat goes very tender when it is done in the oven on the lower heat. Delish.

Best part about wings at home? You can make a mess on your face and hands when eating them and it doesn't matter!!! Hahaha!!!

I know I'm going to enjoy my sticky wings for dinner, can't wait!

You all must try it....
